Append-only · Attributed · Supersede, never overwrite
Proving it happened is a different job from exporting it.
The evidence pack is the export. This is the thing being exported — a continuous, attributed record that nobody can tidy up afterwards, including you.

The pain
What this feature fixes.
A record you can edit is a record with no weight.
Once the other side's solicitor asks when a row was written, anything retrospectively editable stops being evidence and becomes an assertion. Spreadsheets fail this test completely.
“Who changed this?” has no answer.
A field is different from how you remember it. Nobody knows who changed it, when, or what it said before — and the person who would know left the business in March.
The trail stops at the system boundary.
Messages in one place, jobs in another, certificates in a drive, money in an accounting package. Four partial trails prove considerably less than one complete one.
How it works
What you get when you turn this on.
- Append-only across the tenancy — messages, jobs, certificates, notices, payments and inspections on one trail
- Every entry attributed to a named user and stamped with a time
- Corrections supersede the original and stay linked, so the earlier version remains readable
- Redaction leaves an audited marker rather than a silent gap
- Period lock on finance, so closed books stay closed
- Hash verification on export, so a bundle can be shown not to have changed since it was produced

With and without
The operating-day difference.
Without Evidix
- A spreadsheet anyone can edit, with no record of when a row was written
- Deletions that leave no trace
- Four systems, four partial histories
- “It must have been Dave”
With Evidix
- An append-only trail where a change is a new entry, not a replacement
- Redactions that leave an audited marker
- One trail spanning the whole tenancy
- A named user and a timestamp on every entry

The full audit trail is a Professional-tier capability. Every plan keeps the underlying timestamps.
A record nobody can tidy up, including you.
That is what makes it worth something on the day it is read back.
